MEET DEEANN BUSBY

DeeAnn has been a florist for over twelve years, building a reputation for creating elegant, refined designs that feel fresh yet timeless. Based in Yeppoon, she started by selling flowers from a small seaside shop before turning her focus to weddings and events through her studio, Posy Florals Yeppoon.

Her style is clean and classic. “If I’m working with natives, I keep it all native. If I’m creating something whimsical, I’ll stay soft and flowing. Each wedding deserves its own mood,” she says.

WHERE TO START WITH YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS

Before you even email florists, DeeAnn suggests gathering inspiration. “We’re so lucky with Pinterest and Instagram. Save what speaks to you,” she says.

Once you’ve collected ideas, narrow them down to a few favorite bouquets and note what you love about each one, color, texture, or structure. Share those insights with your florist so they understand your vibe, whether it’s modern, classic, or whimsical.

SEASONS, SUPPLY, AND FLEXIBILITY

In Central Queensland, weather and supply can impact availability, so DeeAnn encourages couples to focus on color palettes instead of specific blooms. “Mother Nature does her thing,” she laughs. “Crops can flood, and suppliers may change last minute. If you trust me with your colors, I’ll find something perfect.”

She adds that May can be one of the hardest months for flower supply, so early communication helps.

HOW TO SAVE MONEY ON FLOWERS

DeeAnn’s biggest tip: focus on quality over quantity. “Less and more,” she says. “Fewer arrangements done really well will always look more expensive than lots of small ones.”

She also suggests embracing greenery. “Foliage can be just as impactful as flowers. It’s modern, affordable, and perfect for our climate.”

Smaller, boutique-style bouquets or using single high-impact varieties like orchids or arum lilies are trending and cost-effective. And yes, reusing your ceremony flowers for the reception still works beautifully, just make sure they’re easy to move.

TRENDS AND TIMELESS STYLE

Trends come and go, but DeeAnn’s advice is to stay true to yourself. “Explore beyond the first few Pinterest results. If you love color, go for it. Don’t feel like you have to stick to white and green,” she says.

Arbors are becoming less common, while plinths are gaining popularity. “Plinths are versatile and easy to move. They work with our climate and are practical for repurposing throughout the day.”

BOOKING YOUR FLORIST

Good communication makes everything easier. “Ask questions, share your ideas, and don’t be afraid to trust your florist,” DeeAnn advises. “Sometimes we’ll come up with something even better together.”

She recommends booking 9 to 12 months in advance, especially for winter weddings. “I only take one wedding per day so I can give each couple my full attention,” she says.
